Valuation
Trident’s experts apply a variety of techniques, including real options, cash flow models, and market-based approaches, to value assets (including intangibles), companies, and securities (including equity, debt, and derivatives). Professors Sarin and Shapiro have written widely-cited papers addressing valuation issues, including the determinants and size of discounts to be applied for lack of control and lack of marketability.
Trident has performed complex valuation relating to companies in the banking, communications, consumer products, energy, entertainment, media, oil and gas, real estate, transportation, and technology sectors. For example, Trident was retained by a large multinational conglomerate to value the intangible assets held by a business unit that was being divested. Trident closely examined the operating efficiencies and growth prospects of each operating segment within the business unit both in the U.S. and international markets in order to explain the value creation from each identified intangible asset.
